Where Deera comes from, and where it’s going

Deera began as a project in a class called New Topics in Economics, taught in Madrid. The structure of the work was shaped by two other classes taken in the same years: comparative politics, and research methods. The founder, Mohammad Al-Wazzan, took these classes and they shaped how Deera approaches its work.

Deera produces independent research on institutions and how they develop. The work centres on questions that decision-makers haven’t yet asked, framed across the right comparisons, and answered with the right method. Each project is published with its sources and its reasoning visible.

Two further arms are in development: Deera Geo, focused on climate and sustainability research, and Deera Lab, a working space for scientists. Both are early. Both will be announced separately when they are ready.
